NON-DESTRUCTIVE TESTING(NDT) PERSONNEL TRAINING AND CERTIFICATION SCHEME  WHICH COMPLIES WITH BOTH EN 473 & ISO 9712 STANDARDS.

SINGAPORE NDT CERTIFICATION SCHEME (SGNDT)

Why to get Trained and Certified?

NDT Personnel Qualification and Certification ensures that NDT personnel thoroughly understand the technology, principles and practices of the NDT methods and techniques. This understanding is essential to good NDT performance because:

bullet Most NDT methods do not inherently create their own records
bullet NDT results are strongly dependent on the NDT process and operator
bullet NDT results can seldom be cross checked without conducting another test

NDT personnel must also know the tests and be dedicated to performing them properly. They must understand the potential seriousness of , and their responsibility for, the consequences if the tests are not performed properly

The principal procedure used to ensure that NDT personnel possess these qualifications  consists of the following:

     ·   Training to gain necessary knowledge

     ·    Experience, under the supervision of competent and knowledgeable people

·    Qualification examinations to demonstrate that the individual has acquired            sufficient knowledge and competency in the methods to be used

·    Certification to document the successful demonstration of competency

SINGAPORE NDT CERTIFICATION SCHEME (SGNDT)

SINGAPORE NDT CERTIFICATION SCHEME (SGNDT) which is established in accordance with the requirements of  ISO 9712 & EN473 is administered and controlled by training & certification committees appointed by Non-Destructive Testing Society (Singapore)-NDTSS. What this means is that all aspects related to the operation of the scheme such as; curriculum development, the approval of training material  and examination questions, training, examination, the marking of examinations, the issuing of certificates and  the recording systems are the responsibilities of the training and certification committee.

The objective of the scheme is to ensure that the NDT operator is able to perform competently in all aspects related to his/her chosen discipline. This scheme ensures that they have been trained and certified to be competent at performing a complete range of skills pertaining to their chosen NDT discipline. In other words their certificate is fully transferable from employer to employer and job to job.

 TIME      :    7.30PM   -   REGISTRATION;

                   8.00 PM   -   Technical Talk

                       9.00PM   -   REFRESHMENTS

Abstract of the Technical Talk

The presentation would give an overview of recent advances in sensors and imaging technologies in eddy current, ultrasonic, flux leakage, and magnetic non-destructive evaluation (NDE) techniques. The two important aspects that must be considered while selecting a sensor for NDE imaging i.e. sensitivity and resolution would be discussed. The presentation would cover phased-array, patterned, flexible, rotating sensors and highlights the concept of multi-sensor fusion, wireless sensing and sensor networks applicable to NDE. The presentation would highlight on-line testing of components and mechanical as well electronic scanning based imaging technologies for fast automated detection of defects in plates, tubes and welds. Special emphasis will be given to detection of far-side corrosion, microstructure degradation and residual stresses by effectively utilising efficient sensors, artificial neural networks, wavelet transform and image processing methods. Non-contact NDE of buried pipes, wire ropes, vessels and concrete structures would be discussed from the perspective of quality assurance and in-service inspection. Detailed account of remote field eddy current technique for in-situ inspection of ferromagnetic steel steam generator tubes would be given.

Short biography of the Speaker

Dr. B.P.C. Rao is from Indira Gandhi Center for Atomic Research, India working towards development of Non-destructive Evaluation (NDE) techniques for detection and characterisation of defects and microstructure variations in steels. He places due emphasis on sensor development, numerical modelling, digital signal & image processing, artificial intelligence, automation and component inspection. He has developed intelligent imaging schemes for automated NDT of stainless steel components and a comprehensive technology for stringent quality assurance and reliable in-situ examination of ferritic steel tubes of steam generators. Dr. Rao developed eddy current, Giant magneto-resistive (GMR), MEMS, GMI, and micro-Hall sensors for automated and non-contact examination of components for structural integrity assessment. He has solved several challenging problems related to manufacturing and in-service inspection of a wide variety of engineering components in nuclear and aircraft industry using eddy current, flux leakage, ultrasonic, Brakhausen emission and other NDE techniques. Dr. Rao published more than 125 papers in journals and conferences and is a recipient of several awards. He established successful research collaborations with Fraunhofer-IZFP & Federal Material Institute-BAM, Germany; CEA, France; Cardiff & Newcastle Universities, UK; and Iowa State & Michigan State Universities, USA. Currently, he heads the electromagnetics, modelling, sensors and imaging section in Kalpakkam
